La conquête de l'Angleterre par le Duc Guillaume (bataille d'Hastings en 1066) est un point de repère important pour Vernon puisque nous sommes en pleine période de construction de la première église de style roman. De plus, c'est à la suite de cet évènement que s'est détachée la branche anglaise des Seigneurs de Vernon qui ont perpétué et disséminé le nomde la ville tant en Grande Bretagne qu'aux Etats Unis.

The conquest of England by Willian, Duke of Normandy (battle of Hastings, 1066) is a key date for Vernon since at the time they were building the first church in Romanesque style. Moreover, after this event, the English branch of the Lords of Vernon was born, so that Vernon as a family name spread both in Great Britain and in the United States.
