Le gothique 'classique ou 'de base', qu'on appelle parfois 'lancéolé', directement dérivé du premier gothique ou gothique de transition du XIIème siècle était déjà un système complet et varié qui contenait tous les éléments et tous les partis qui ont été développés au XIIIème siècle pour créer une sorte d'Âge d'or du gothique. Celui-ci est inauguré par Chartres et culmine à Reims et, plus modestement, se trouve illustré à Vernon par les arcades transversales du choeur, d'un galbe élégant. |
The Golden Age of Gothic, usually called High Gothic (or Lancet Gothic because of the use of tall and narrow pointed arches) directly derives from Early Gothic which was already a complete system that contained all the elements and all the options that the 13th century would develop, thus creating a kind of Golden Age of the Gothic. The High Gothic period, inaugurated at Chartres, culminating in the Cathedral of Reims, is more modestly demonstrated in the elegantly curved transverse arches at the entrance of the choir in Vernon. |
